Lucerne, Switzerland

Take a trip to the Swiss city of Lucerne where you can mix a city break with a dash of adventure.

It’s very easy to get around the city on foot and, with shopping, markets, monuments, and lakeside walks, it will keep you busy in a relaxing way for a while.

For a little adventure you can easily schedule in day trips to the top of the Alps using public transport from the central stations, then cable cars up to the summits. The views up there are absolutely incredible and you can’t help but feel relaxed as you soak in the sights.

Where to stay: Grand Hotel National Lucerne

Don’t miss these foods: A fine meal at Hotel Wilden Mann and of course Swiss chocolate from a local Chocolatier!

Must-do: Day trips to the Alps – Mt Titlis, Mt Pilatus or both

Relax in nature in the Swiss Alps

Talalla, Sri Lanka

One of the best relaxing breaks for solo travelers is a visit to Sri Lanka.

It’s a place built on wellness and relaxation.

My recommendation is to book an all-inclusive yoga retreat which is a great way to meet up with other travelers while also stopping to re-center the mind and body.

The bonus is that you can enjoy some coconuts by the beach, go on a wildlife safari, go temple hopping in a tuk-tuk, or take a surf lesson in your spare time.

Where to stay: Talalla Retreat

Don’t miss these foods: Coconut Sambal (you will likely see it at the Talalla buffet) and mango smoothies

Must-do: Try something new and book a surf lesson

Reykjavik, Iceland

If you feel relaxed in nature, then you will love Iceland.

It’s one of the most popular destinations for solo female travelers which makes it perfect for beginners to solo travel.

While you’re there, make sure you relax in one of the local pools which are a tiny fraction of the cost of the touristy pools like the Blue Lagoon.

If you want to see a lot of sights but don’t want to rent a car, jump on one of the Bus Travel Iceland tours. These will take you to all the spectacular natural sights like the Glacier Lagoon & roaring waterfalls.

Where to stay: Hotel Alda

Don’t miss these foods: The famous Lobster Soup at Seagriffin

Must-do: A bus tour with BusTravel Iceland

One of the best relaxing breaks for solo travelers is definitely Iceland

Bath, England

If you prefer a city break, why not play tourist in merry old England?

Bath is a charming city where you can explore ancient Roman Baths, take a trip to see the famous Stonehenge, spend some time relaxing in the rooftop bath at Thermae Bath Spa and, of course, eat as much tea and scones as you can fit in.

It’s an easy place to walk around on your own and just explore.

Where to stay: Halcyon Apartments

Don’t miss these foods: A famous Bath Bun, Cornish pastie and plenty of tea and scones

Must-do: Relax in the rooftop pool at Thermae Bath Spa

Oahu, Hawaii

Golden beaches, sparkling sapphire water, palm trees swaying in the ocean breeze and the very best Acai bowls – Hawaii is a special kind of paradise.

It’s one of the best destinations when it comes to relaxing breaks for solo travelers.

If you want adventure, you can hike, snorkel or even swim with sharks. Or if you just want to relax, there are plenty of beaches to chill out at.

You can even take a Jeep tour around Oahu to cruise the island in style and have someone else take care of the planning.

Where to stay: Turtle Bay Resort (North Shore) or Hilton Hawaiian Village (Waikiki)

Don’t miss these foods: Natural shave ice from Uncle Clays House of Pure Aloha

Must do: Watch the sunrise from the Makapuu Lighthouse or Lanikai Pillbox
